Irene's Aftermath...

Irene was very windy and very rainy and a bit scary, but her the power outages and flooding that came after she spent her fury were very, very damaging.

The morning after her attack, and while the storm was still raging, Duane & his mother rode over to her house to quickly raise some of her valued items, just in case there was flooding (little did they know how much damage was coming). Here are some pictures of their trip...
Water rushing down the driveway- it was much worse through the night when our whole road was one river!Passing a sea of greenhouses on one side......and a sea of an airport on the other!A flooded intersection...and a flooded school- buildings looked like islands...

Well, after Duane & his mother returned to our home that Sunday morning, the storm was soon over, but the flooding had just begun. Soon her whole neighborhood had been evacuated and the water reached 4 feet in the home. I already posted the pictures that Duane took when they were first allowed to re-enter the home. A day or two later, almost our entire church showed up for demolition...

Here's a picture showing the flood water retained in-between the glass panels...First the house had to be emptied (almost everything was trashed), and then Dave & Mike did most of the demolition! But everybody helped, and so much was accomplished! Thanks, everyone!!
And now the house sits naked. But faithful Uncle Mike has already done so much- planning, estimating, bleaching, purifying. And soon the rebuilding may begin.
